Family Law

family law One of the most demanding areas of the practice of law are family law cases. It is the emotions of the parties which will often drive the litigation train over many months and years of contentious feuding in the courtroom. This litigation dissipates parties’ assets because the parties cannot reach an amicable agreement regarding custody and financial division of assets.  Ultimately, this stalemate requires a judge to decide such important issues as child custody, whether alimony should be for a term of years or permanent. Child support obligations are the responsibility of both the father and the mother, whether married or not.

Sometimes, the alleged father proclaims “I am not the father, why should I pay child support!”. In cases of this type, paternity tests must be done and a petition to determine paternity filed. The costs of such tests can vary from $300 to $400 for the DNA testing. A swab from the mother, the child and the father is the more reliable test. These cases are serious and require hours to thoroughly present to the Court.

Areas of practice include but are not limited to the following:

  • Divorce
  • Child Custody
  • Property Division
  • Modification of Alimony
  • Modification of Child Support
  • Paternity
  • Contempt of Court
  • Domestic Violence Injunctions
  • Property Division
  • Uncontested Divorces
  • Enforcement of Court Orders
